I'd like to display the Artists section in a grid style, for instance 3 rows of 4 as opposed to the 1 row of however many that the theme shows by default.
1. For the layout of artists will need change code to do it and we can't provide support for it because it's customization. So to do such as your want is possible but you will need hire freelancer to do it.
2. If you want more flexible and dynamic, please use revolution slider instead default slider, it will available the option left-to-right such as your wish.

What if I wanted to display 3 artists and there is space for 12? Does the theme know not to show the left-to-right slider options?
